Emergency kits are an important part of protecting your family. They are actually an investment in family safety just as an insurance plan would be with the added benefit that that an emergency survival kit can actually Save a life. But they are certainly of no use unless you have them. Preparing for the unexpected, especially natural and man made disasters are often taken lightly and put off.
A Family Emergency Plan should be made and questions asked such as:
How will we find each other in case of a real emergency or disaster?
Were will we meet?
How will we get to our meeting location?
What supplies should we have?
Where and how should we store our emergency supplies?
What kind of protection should we have?
How can we protect our pets?
These are just a few of the many questions that should be asked and answered as you start to prepare you and your family for emergency and disaster. Every family member should carry a small copy of this Emergency Family Communication plan in their purse or wallet at all times.
There are many emergency kit manufacturers to choose from when you are ready to buy.
The very least of which should be a 72 hour emergency kit. Although frugal and commendable, composing an impromptu emergency kit from items from within your home is not realistic – you really should consider having an emergency kit which allows you to pick up and leave at a moments notice. Many of the items needed you probably don’t have anyway, and these kits come with just the right size and quantities.
A 72 hour emergency kit would include at the minimum, these items:
